Squarespace is a great website platform. It's a fairly simple tool that's easy to understand and has some pretty great templates that will give you a wonderful looking website.
So why switch to Shopify?
As an ecommerce site, Squarespace just doesn't compare to Shopify, a website tool built for ecommerce. I've found Squarespace to be a better fit for service-oriented businesses like graphic designers, acupuncturists, lawyers, etc. If you need to use Squarespace for ecommerce, this is a great place to start for businesses with smaller product offerings.
However, sooner or later you will hit a limit when trying to grow your business. Squarespace does have some integrations and plugins, but they're nowhere near the breadth of Shopify. I digress. I'll talk more about when to choose Shopify vs. Squarespace another time.
Can't I Use Gmail/Hotmail/Free Email?
While there are many free email services like Gmail, these aren't always the best option if you're running a business. For one, they make your business look unprofessional and small. This can hurt conversions on your site and make people think twice before placing an order on your site. At best, they reduce the order value they will make with you.

What is a built
Once created, every Squarespace site has a built-in domain that looks like this:yoursiteid.squarespace.com
If you wish, you can keep this domain and it will remain your website address. If you transfer through a custom domain, users will no longer see your built-in Squarespace Domain.
It's important to note that once you've added a custom domain, this is your website address. Your built-in Squarespace Domain isn't automatically redirected.
If you want to keep your built-in Squarespace Domain but change the one assigned to you, you can do so by following these steps:
From the main menu, click Settings and then click Domains.
Under Built-in domain, click the domain.
Enter a new SiteID. This will be the first part of your built-in domain before the.squarespace.com.

Computers communicate with each other primarily through numbers. Every computer and server has an IP address that looks something like 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. What you now set via DNS entries is this assignment. Currently your domain name points to a web hosting or to some standard DNS servers for your host's park page. You need to tell the registrar which IP address to point to, namely Squarespaces IP addresses.

Your domain records can be green or red, depending on what Squarespace sees from your domain host.

Squarespace Domain Downgrades, Cancellations, and Refunds
The general rule at Squarespace is that if you don't make your payments,You have 45 days before the domain is released to the registrar again.That means you can no longer use it unless you buy it again and no one else bought it before you.
If you downgrade from an annual plan to monthly billing, your free domain will expire at the end of the annual billing cycle. However, you will be given a 5-day grace period for refundsAfter that, you cannot get any money back for a purchased domain.

When to show, when to transfer
If your domain name is registered with a well-known registrar like GoDaddy or Namecheap, it's probably better to point it to your Squarespace site than to transfer it to Squarespace. It's faster and cheaper.
Sometimes it just makes sense to transfer your domain name to Squarespace. For example, if you're moving your website from Wix, WordPress, or any other website builder, you probably don't want to keep your domain name with them.
Of course, simplicity always applies. If you want to have everything you need for your online presence in one place, your domain name, your website, and all of the settings and operations that go with it, you should consider porting your domain name to Squarespace.
Here's how to set it up:
First, make sure you've already set up your domain in Squarespace, then go to your email dashboard by clicking Settings > Email. Choose the plan you want, then create your account. Click Next, review your order, and then click Buy. You will receive a temporary password at your old email address. Follow the instructions in that email to log in with your temporary password. Transferring vs. connecting domains
There are two ways to use a third-party custom domain for your Squarespace-built website. You can transfer or connect the domain to Squarespace.
Transfer of a domain
This is Squarespaces' recommended way to use a custom domain for their websites. When you transfer your domain, you can manage and control both your domain and your website through Squarespace.
Note: In order to transfer a domain, it must be listed in Squarespacesavailable TLDs.

Join a domain
Sometimes users want to keep their domain name with their current third-party provider but still use it for their Squarespace site. This is possible by connecting your domain.Just keep in mind: you need to manage your domain and website on each separate platform.
If you decide to go this route, do the following:
From your Squarespace site's main menu, click Settings, then click Domains.
Enter the fully qualified domain name that you are reconnecting to in the Domain Name field, and then click Next.
Select your domain provider from the dropdown menu
Then click Connect domain.
How to connect one Squarespace site to a third
With Squarespace, you can register a domain directly with them, but you don't have to. Many people register domain names with other registrars before even setting up a website, and many others have websites hosted on other services and want to transfer to Squarespace. There are a handful of reasons for this - sometimes the registrar has better features or privacy, sometimes for consolidation purposes, or sometimes simply because it's an old domain that they've had for a while.
Luckily, connecting your domain to your Squarespace account is relatively easy.
The first thing you should know is the difference between transferring a domain and connecting a domain.
Transfer of a domainmeans taking it out of the registrar's control and putting it in the hands of Squarespace. This gives you the benefits of a domain through Squarespace, such as B. WHOIS protection, centralized billing and free SSL.
On the other hand, Squarespace has some limitations on what domains to host. They also don't transfer registration premium domains, don't accept most country code TLDs, and can't register your domain for less than 60 days.
